If your flight lands at dawn in Ireland, book your hotel for the night before.

Rush hour in Dublin Airport is 5am. That's when the transatlantic flights land.

You arrive at the hotel at 6am and ask for an early check-in, hoping that your bedraggled look will magically open up an occupied room.

Not happening.

Now you have to kill time. But Dublin is a not a 24-hour city. It's slow to wake up.

You flounder in the torture chairs in the lobby. A cafe finally opens.

It's still only 8am. But it‘s ok, you'll stay awake by sightseeing.

Except Dublin is tough on the new arrival. We don't do blocks here. Dublin‘s streets twists and turns.

It's an escape room of a city. And your brain can barely figure out Google Maps.

I know all this because I do the Dublin Jet Lag walking tour every day with people who landed that morning.

I can tell in an instant who got into their room for a power nap and who didn’t.

One of them is fresh and excited to be in Ireland, the other is a zombie wishing they'd never left home.

Got an early flight? Get the room. It’s worth it.

The Chancery Hotel is a gem on a very quiet street. Perfect for sleeping when the city is waking. Here are my other favourite hotels in Dublin.
