Teeling Whiskey Distillery Tour Review
Teeling Distillery Tour. Is Worth It?
Verdict: Yes. Teeling built their distillery with tours in mind and it shows. Unlike Jameson, they distill on site so you can see the whole distilling process and learn some Dublin whiskey history that will surprise you.
Sometimes, I find distillery tours get bogged down in details. Let's be honest, we're here to take a few photos and taste some whiskey, not get a degree in chemistry. The Teeling tour was well paced and timed just right at 45 minutes.

Save with the Dublin Pass
The Dublin Pass gets you into Dublin's top 40 attractions for one flat fee including Teeling. It pays for itself after the Guinness Storehouse, Teeling Distillery, and the Hop-on Bus. Everything after that is free, EPIC, Jameson, Christchurch, plus my own favourites, the Little Museum of Dublin & the Jeanie Johnston Famine Ship.

The Teeling Experience
The distillery is located in the Liberties area of Dublin. Teelings is actually the oldest distillery in Dublin City at the grand old age of 11 😆. Really, it was opened in 2015 and was the first new distillery opened in Dublin in 125 years. You're surprised to hear that right?
The Story of Whiskey in Dublin

The tour began in the exhibit area where you could read about the history of whiskey distilling in Dublin. 30% of the whiskey in the world used to be produced in this small area of Dublin back in the 1800s, but US Prohibition & Irish independence put an end to it. The English wouldn't let our whiskey be sold in their territories.
I did my tour in the Irish language, something else we nearly lost under English rule. It was the first ever tour given in Teeling in Gaelic and it was part of a festival. I absolutely loved hearing my own language being spoken here.
The Distillery

Teeling clearly knew they would give tours when they built it and that's what makes it such a good experience. Platforms are elevated, there's windows into the vats so you can see the liquid bubbling. Everything is pristine and clean, if a tiny bit noisy. Sophie, our guide, used a microphone and we could hear with ease.
The stills are named after women, as was the custom back in the day. You'll see three of them since triple filtered in what makes it Irish whiskey and tastes so good.

The Storage

We moved on the cleverly designed storage area where they showed how much whiskey evaporates over time and they tell us why it's not allowed to storage the barrels in the city of Dublin
The Whiskey Tasting

The best part, we went out to the bar area where our whiskeys were set up for us to taste. Sophie made us feel at ease in the kind awkward strangers facing each other talking about whiskey notes. She told us how to properly smell them and invited us to take a sip. When the tour was over she said we could take our samples to the Bang Bang bar to finish them off. I had already polished them off during the tasting, oops.
Bang Bang Bar

Another bonus of being a recent build is how well they designed their bar, the Bang Bang Bar. People were lingering here after their tours. I have
Teeling Shop

I had no whiskey left so walked through their store. You can buy their high end bottle here and even bottle your very own personalised bottle. I prefer to wait for the Duty Free whiskey section at Dublin Airport when I'm buying whiskey though.
Conclusion
The Teeling Whiskey Distillery is very thoughtfully designed and laid out. It's up there with the Pearse Lyons Distillery as the best whiskey distillery tour in Dublin. Highly recommended.
After The Visit
The Guinness Storehouse is just a few minutes walk away, so I recommend making an afternoon of it and do the Guinness tour after Teeling. Eat at nearby Two Pups on your way there, so you're not drinking on an empty stomach.
