A Tuesday Night In Dublin

What To Do In Dublin On A Tuesday Night
You don't have to come to Dublin on a weekend to have fun. Our capital city is buzzing every night of the week these days.
In fact, I'd even say it's more enjoyable during the week because the bars are busy, not packed. The chefs are humming along at a steady pace, not overwhelmed. And you're less likely to be hit in the face by an inflatable leg carried around by the bachelorette parties who land at Dublin Airport every Friday morning.
Pre-Dinner Drinks
Amy Austin
I was meeting a friend after work and our plan was to go to Amy Austin, a small restaurant and wine bar, that has the unglamorous address of "Unit 1 Drury St, Carpark".
Yes, a wine bar in a car park. But I've heard very good things about it and more importantly, it has 25% off wine on Tuesdays.
But we ended up not going because when I made dinner reservations for our main meal at Masa, the only seating available was at 6:15pm. So we had to skip Amy Austin and go straight to dinner.
Dinner
Masa

6:15-7:45pm: Masa is a Mexican taqueria and was already full when I got there at 6:15. We sat a small table within touching distance of our neighbors, but it's Ireland so everyone happily shuffles to make space.
The staff were young and on top of it. Three different servers asked for our order. They weren't intrusive, more eager.
I like a small menu, simple is better. And this made ordering easy. We got chicken, fish, lamb and vegan chorizo tacos. Two tacos came with each order and were delicious. They were out within 5 minutes of ordering, which is perfect after a day's work (or sightseeing).
I regretted not getting the Patatas Bravas when I saw them, but I had just enough to keep me happy.
A reasonably priced & chilled bottle of Sauvignon was welcome on a warm Dublin evening.
I'll leave their Instagram to show you better food photos than I would have taken.
€77 was our bill and was reasonable. Overall, a good experience, quick, cheerful, and tasty.
I still think Tacos Lupillos is the best in Dublin, but it's out of the City Centre. It is near Kilmainham Gaol if you're going there. It’s in a very local part of Dublin.

Ukelele Tuesday
8p-9:30pm: This was the real reason that we met on a Tuesday. To go to the Stag's Head and join about a hundred other people playing a ukulele!
I've known about it for a long time and it sounds like so much fun, but I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Does everyone bring their own Ukulele? Is there a skills test? Are non-players allowed in?
It turns out that I was overthinking it. It was brilliantly simple.
There's a song list with more than 100 songs and they picked one to play. There's a big screen with the chords and lyrics to follow along. Some people seemed to be able to play, but lots of others were just strumming along without much finger switching. Everyone was singing out loud though and it was a blast.
There were young kids and senior citizens. I don't think I've seen a genuinely happier crowd. And that's saying something in Dublin. Everyone had massive smiles and were just having fun without caring what they or their ukulele sounded like.

They offered ukuleles to anyone who didn't have one, so come along and join in. It was mostly locals there but the tourists who stumbled upon it were welcomed. I'll be back for sure.

Ukulele Tuesday is an absolute must do if you're looking for something to do in Dublin on a Tuesday night. I'll be going back for sure.
The Ruby Sessions

We actually stayed so long at Ukulele Tuesday that we missed the Ruby Sessions. The Ruby Sessions is an acoustic music club that has been running on Tuesday nights in Dublin for 25 years.
It's upstairs in Doyle's in College Street at 8:30pm every Tuesday and is one of those things that when you find it, you wish you lived here and could go every week. The room is silent and candlelit. Three musicians play every week.
You don't know who it's going to be. In the past it's been Ed Sheeran, Paolo Nutini, Mumford & Sons, Damien Rice, Glen Hansard, George Ezra, Kodaline, Paul Brady, James Blunt, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Hozier.
It's more likely to be a local Irish performer, but they are carefully picked.
Tickets go on sale every Sunday at 7pm for the show that Tuesday at Rubysessions.com Book early to get in.
Decision Time
Since Ukulele Tuesday starts at 8 and the Ruby Sessions start at 8:30, you're going to have to make a difficult choice of which to attend. Ukelele is more sing along energy, while the Ruby Sessions is more intimate.
Mulligan's

10-10:30pm: We had one last pint at Mulligan's, which is home to probably the best pint in Dublin. I was a regular here during my Trinity College student days and it hasn't changed a bit. It probably hasn't changed much since it opened on Poolbeg Street in 1854. Just a classic & authentic Irish bar. We got there at 10 and every table was full with groups of friends hunched over the low tables. We took some high stools near the window and savored the taste of the Guinness before heading for home at a reasonable hour.
