The Petit Cafe Dublin

How I Found It

I was going to the National Museum one morning and was there before it even opened. Directly across the road is the Petit Cafe. I was just going over to look at it for research purposes, I'd already had my morning coffee, but the sign in the window got my attention. It said: "We are a small independent coffee shop and appreciate your business." So I decided to give them some business.

The Atmosphere

I got chatting to Carol, the friendly owner, while my coffee was brewing. I told her that I came in because of her sign, which she appreciated. Carol said that Dublin is going to end up full of chains if we don't do more to support the smaller family run places.

It's a small place, with just a few counter seats at the window looking over at the museum. I would have liked to have sat at the outdoor seating, but they were all full. I could tell a lot of the customers were regulars, probably from the surrounding government offices. The Irish parliament is across the road too, so you may even spot one of our politicians here. They're actually an alright bunch, our politics isn't as divisive as our friends across the Atlantic!

The Food

I ordered the breakfast roll with relish and it was perfect fuel ahead of a Museum visit. It came out quick, had bacon, sausage and egg.

The prices are very reasonable, I'd even say on the low end so even if you're not going to the museum, it's worth walking too. Just two blocks from Grafton Street with its high prices.

National Museum of Ireland. The Archaeology Collection
Everyone goes to the Book Of Kells but miss the free National Museum. Big mistake. It’s got ancient manuscripts, bog bodies & Vikings swords.

Practical Details

Prices: Low

Location:  35A Kildare St, Dublin 2

Opening Hours: I got this from Google, so don't hold me to them! 6am-3pm Monday-Friday. They are not open on the weekend. Just like the government.

More: They have a Facebook page that hasn't been updated in a long time. They're too busy trying to run an independent business!

Verdict

Well worth a stop for a quick bite to eat at good prices. And to support local business.
